Moderation Transparency

At Sad Sorrows, we prioritize transparency and fairness in our moderation practices. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment for all members of our community. To achieve this, we employ a systematic and objective punishment system to address violations of our rules, which are outlined on our website at https://sadsorrows.com/rules.

When a user violates one of our rules, a staff member will take appropriate action in accordance with the severity of the infraction. Each of our rules is numbered 1 through 17 and corresponds to a keyword, "R 1-17," which moderators use to automatically convert punishments for their definition. This ensures consistency and clarity in our enforcement process.

Warnings and mutes are handled privately between staff and the user. A bot will reach out to the user to inform them of their punishment, including the reason, evidence, duration, and the option to appeal. More severe penalties, such as bans and blacklists, are logged publicly in our bans channel for transparency. However, the specific reasons for these actions are kept private between staff and the user to respect privacy concerns.

We operate on a progressive system, meaning that repeated violations of the same rule may result in increasingly lengthy punishments. Our staff members have the final say in all disciplinary actions, and decisions are made at their discretion based on the circumstances of each case.

In the event that a user is dissatisfied with a staff member's professional conduct, they have the option to report them through our website at https://sadsorrows.com/report. We take all reports seriously and will investigate them thoroughly to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of our moderation team.

By maintaining transparency and accountability in our moderation process, we strive to foster a positive and respectful community where all members can feel safe and supported.

Continued participation in our network following the implementation of any changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

Terms last updated: May 15th 2024

Preface

I - All rules in the server apply at all times and in all places. Most of the time, broken rules result in a warning - these expire with time and add up to punishments such as a mute or ban. Certain rules that are broken may come with an immediate ban.

II - Propagating or influencing those that have broken the rules may result in punishment. This includes attempting to bait people into admitting they're under 13, trying to make people spam ping you through a nickname, or quoting/replying to rule-breaking messages.

III - Not all rules in the server are listed on this page, read the channel topic and pins of each channel to view any channel-specific rules that may be present. Please use common sense and avoid finding "loopholes" in the rules.

IV - For moderation purposes, this server is English only. This means you cannot use ASCII, binary, morse code, ciphered code, or made-up languages from games/movies.

V - Copying any part of Sad Sorrows including the rules, icons, or banners is not allowed and will result in a permanent, unappealable ban.

VI - We may record voice channels, streams, or interviews in the server to be used privately as evidence in the event something occurs that is against the rules, and by using our VCs you give consent to this occurring.

VII - The staff team is authorized to issue a permanent ban with collective agreement if a user’s malicious actions exceed the maximum punishment of that specific rule they violated or do not fit in any of our existing rule categories.

We must also uphold Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Partner Code of Conduct.

Comprehensive Guidelines and Regulations for Sad Sorrows

This block will contain a summarization of Discord’s Community Guidelines, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and more formatted in a way that displays the working of our server as a part of DIscord.

By accessing our server, you confirm that you’re at least 13 years old and meet the minimum age required by the laws in your country. Discord maintains a list of minimum ages around the world as a resource for you, but we aren’t able to guarantee that it is always accurate. If you are old enough to access our server in your country, but not old enough to have authority to consent to our terms, your parent or legal guardian must agree to our terms on your behalf. Please ask your parent or legal guardian to read these terms with you. If you’re a parent or legal guardian, and you allow your child (who meets the minimum age for your country) to use the server, then these terms also apply to you and you’re responsible for your child’s activity on the server, including purchases (nitro, subscriptions) made by them. For more information on purchases, check "Discord’s Paid Services". We will not be going in-depth on Paid Services as these do not apply to our network for the majority.

Our server owners and server admins control the server permissions and rules, including establishing membership requirements and creating custom roles and what those roles can do within the server. Our server owners and admins also control whether to make our server available in Server Discovery, whether to publish our server invite link on public websites, whether to enable community growth and safety features, and whether to add bots or other apps. These permissions, like the size of our server, may change over time, without notice.

You are responsible for the security of your own account, and you agree to contact Discord immediately if you believe your account has been compromised. As server staff we are not involved in this process, so please redirect these concerns to the appropriate place.

In the world of Discord servers, Sad Sorrows is a larger space, if you share content within our server, that content may be more likely to be accessed by a lot of people. For example, Sad Sorrows is available in the Server Discovery section of the app and does not require an invite link to join. Our vanity URL (.gg/sads) is also published on public websites. Anyone can access our network. You should be aware that these permissions are set by our server owners or admins, and they may change over time. Please understand where you are posting on Discord, familiarise yourself with the relevant server permissions when joining our network and post in a certain space, and choose the right space, features, and settings for you and your content.

Your content is yours, but you give us a license to it when you use or partake in our server. Your content may be protected by certain intellectual property rights. We don’t own those and nor does Discord. But by using our server, you grant us a license—which is a form of permission—to do the following with your content, in accordance with applicable legal requirements:

  • Use, copy, store, distribute, and communicate your content in manners consistent with your use of the server. (For example, we can store and display your content. In logs, private staffing channels, and more.)

  • Publish, publicly perform, or publicly display your content if you’ve chosen to make it visible to others. (For example, we can display your messages if you post them on our server or recommend that content to others.)

  • Monitor, modify, translate, and reformat your content. (For example, we can store your images and log your tickets in our database for moderation purposes.)

  • Sublicense your content, to allow our server to work as intended. (For example, we can store your content with our staff and support teams)

We reserve the right to block, remove, and/or permanently delete your content if it is in breach of these terms, the Community Guidelines, our other policies, any applicable law or regulation, our server rules, or if it creates risk for our server or negatively impacts the experience or interests of other server members to continue to make it available.

We welcome feedback in the form of forms or suggestion channels on our server from time to time. By sending us feedback, you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable license to use the feedback and ideas generated from the feedback without any restrictions, attribution, or compensation to you to be used to improve our network.

Our server includes some content that belongs to us, such as the design of our schedules, and content written by us. We retain all intellectual property rights in our content and using these without permission will result in contact with Discord according to the law.

Our server might also provide you with access to other people’s content. You may not use this content without that person’s consent, or as allowed by law. Other people’s content is theirs and doesn’t necessarily reflect our own views. Discord doesn’t endorse or verify the accuracy or reliability of content shared by Discord users within our server. We work hard to try to make our server a safe, positive, and inclusive place, but cannot prevent you from encountering content that you may find objectionable or offensive. You agree we will not be liable for any harm caused by that content. You may report content that you think violates any of our server rules by creating a ticket. We have the right, but not the obligation, to review such reports and block or remove content/members at our discretion.

Our server may also allow you to access third-party websites, features, apps, or other content. We provide you access only as a convenience to you, and are not responsible for the content or services available from these websites or resources. (For example: the hotline or music links we provide within the server)

We respect the intellectual property of others and expect our server members to do the same. See Discord's copyright & IP Policy for information on how to file a copyright complaint within Discord.

When residing in our server, you must comply with these terms, and all applicable laws, server rules, and regulations, and you must only use the server for authorised and acceptable purposes. You must also adhere to Discord’s Community Guidelines and other policies, which contain more detailed rules about your content and behaviour when using Discord and residing in our server. Fundamentally, do not do, try to do, or encourage or help others to do any of the following:

  • Don’t use our server to do harm to yourself or others. Among other things, this includes trying to gain access to another user’s account or any non-public portions of the server, infringing anyone else’s intellectual property rights or any other proprietary rights, exploiting, harassing, bullying, spamming, auto-messaging, or auto-dialling people through our server.

  • Don’t use our server to do harm to Discord. Among other things, this includes trying to gain access to or attacking Discord’s systems, scraping them, transmitting viruses or other malicious code to their services, abusing or defrauding us or our payment systems, copying their product or using their intellectual property without permission, and misusing their reporting or customer service mechanisms.

  • Don’t use our server to do anything else that’s illegal. This includes using the server to plan or commit any crime or do anything else that is illegal.

We encourage you to report content to Discord or conduct that you believe violates these restrictions. For violations within Sad Sorrow’s ruleset, create a ticket.

  • Do not promote, coordinate, or engage in harassment. Sad Sorrows is a platform where everyone can find a place to belong, and harassment prevents us from building a healthy community. We do not allow harassing behaviour such as sustained bullying, ban or block evasion, doxxing, or coordinating server joins for the purposes of harassing server members (such as server raiding).

  • We also do not allow the coordination, participation, or encouragement of sexual harassment, such as sending unsolicited sexually suggestive content, unwanted sexualization, or attacks on sexual activity.

  • Do not use hate speech or engage in other hateful conduct. This includes the use of hate symbols and claims that deny the history of mass human atrocities.

  • We consider hate speech to be any form of expression that either attacks other people or promotes hatred or violence against them based on their protected characteristics.

  • We consider the following to be protected characteristics: age; caste; color; disability; ethnicity; family responsibilities; gender; gender identity; housing status; national origin; race; refugee or immigration status; religious affiliation; serious illness; sex; sexual orientation; socioeconomic class and status; source of income; status as a victim of domestic violence, sexual violence, or stalking; and weight and size.

  • Do not threaten to harm another individual or group of people. This includes direct, indirect, and suggestive threats.

  • Do not organise, promote, or support violent extremism. This also includes glorifying violent events or the perpetrators of violent acts, as well as promoting conspiracy theories that could encourage or incite violence against others.

  • Do not solicit, share, or make attempts to distribute content that depicts, promotes, or attempts to normalize child sexual abuse. Also, do not post content that in any way sexualizes children. This includes real as well as manipulated media, animation (such as lolicon), and any type of digital creation.

  • Discord reports child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and grooming to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

  • We want members to be able to express themselves freely on our server as much as possible, but given the risks associated with underage online dating, we will remove members that encourage or facilitate dating between members.

  • Do not solicit sexual content from or engage in any sexual conduct (“grooming”) with anyone under the age of 18.

  • Do not share sexually explicit or sexually suggestive content of other people without the subject’s knowledge and consent, otherwise known as “revenge porn.” This includes the non-consensual distribution of intimate media that was created either with or without an individual’s consent.

  • Do not share content that glorifies, promotes, or normalizes suicide or other acts of physical self-harm. This includes content that encourages others to cut, burn, or starve themselves, as well as content that normalizes eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia. Self-harm acts or threats used as a form of emotional manipulation or coercion are also prohibited.

  • Do not share real media depicting gore, excessive violence, or animal harm, especially with the intention to harass or shock others.

  • Do not share content that violates anyone's intellectual property or other rights. This includes sharing or selling game cheats or hacks. For more information, please view

  • Do not share false or misleading information (otherwise known as misinformation). Content that is false, misleading, and can lead to significant risk of physical or societal harm may not be shared on our server. We may remove content if we reasonably believe its spread could result in damage to physical infrastructure, injury of others, obstruction of participation in civic processes, or the endangerment of public health.

  • Do not misrepresent your identity on Discord in a deceptive or harmful way. This includes creating fake profiles and attempts to impersonate an individual, group, or organisation.

  • Do not engage in activities that could damage or compromise the security of an account, network, or system. This includes using deceptive techniques to trick others into revealing sensitive information (phishing), using malicious software (malware), and flooding a target with traffic in order to make a resource unavailable (denial-of-service attacks).

  • Do not use or attempt to use our server to promote, coordinate, or execute financial scams. A financial scam is any intentionally deceptive act taken with the intent to receive an illegal, unethical, or otherwise dishonest gain.

  • This includes but is not limited to: Ponzi schemes, pyramid schemes, advance-fee fraud, market manipulation (including “pump-and-dump” schemes), and romance and employment scams.

  • Do not send unsolicited bulk messages (or spam) to others. Also, do not facilitate this activity, such as by selling spambots, server “raid” tools, account-creation tools, token generators, CAPTCHA-solving services, or other spam tools.

  • Do not organise, promote, or engage in any illegal behaviour, such as the buying, selling, or trading of dangerous and regulated goods. Dangerous goods have reasonable potential to cause real-world, physical harm to individuals. Regulated goods have laws in place that restrict the purchase, sale, trade, or ownership of the goods.

  • Do not use self-bots or user-bots. Each account must be associated with a human, not a bot. Self-bots put strain on Discord’s infrastructure and our ability to run our server.

  • Do not mislead Sad Sorrows’ support teams. Do not make false or malicious reports to our support & staff teams or other, send multiple reports about the same issue, or ask a group of users to report the same content or issue. Repeated violations of this guideline may result in loss of access to our reporting functions.
