Rules & Guidelines

Purpose

It is our mission to make Sad Sorrows a safe and welcoming place for all. Every day, thousands of people from around the world come together and express themselves on Sad Sorrows. It is our goal to ensure all users have a valuable, inclusive and welcoming experience. These rules outline what is and isn't allowed on our Discord Server.

Preface

I - All rules in the server apply at all times and in all places. Most of the time, broken rules result in a warning - these expire with time and add up to punishments such as a mute or ban. Certain rules that are broken may come with an immediate ban.

II - Propagating or influencing those that have broken the rules may result in punishment. This includes attempting to bait people into admitting they're under 13, trying to make people spam ping you through a nickname, or quoting/replying to rule-breaking messages.

III - Not all rules in the server are listed on this page. Read the channel topic and pins of each channel to view any channel-specific rules that may be present. If you break rules in our Events server, you may also be punished in both servers. Please use common sense and avoid finding "loopholes" in the rules, they are not exhaustive and may apply to more circumstances beyond what is listed here.

IV - For moderation purposes, this server is English only. This means you cannot use ASCII, binary, morse code, ciphered code, or made-up languages from games/movies.

V - Copying any part of Sad Sorrows including the rules, icons, or banners is not allowed and will result in a permanent, unappealable ban. The content and materials on this website, including but not limited to text, graphics, images, logos, and audiovisual elements, are protected by copyright laws and international treaties. Copying or plagiarising any part of Sad Sorrows or SaSo Inc. may have legal consequences.

VI - We may record voice channels or streams in the server to be used privately as evidence in the event something occurs that is against the rules, and by using our VCs you give consent to this occurring.

We must also uphold Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Partner Code of Conduct.

Rules

Rule #1 Swearing and Bypassing Automod:

• Swearing is prohibited across the server, with no bypassing of automod filters allowed.

• Incomplete bypasses resembling swears (e.g., f*** or s***) are also forbidden.

• File names must adhere to these rules to prevent bypassing.

• Higher-level channels allow swearing but prohibit markdown or racial slurs.

Rule #2 Advertising Standards:

• Advertising isn’t allowed anywhere in or surrounding the server. DM advertising is also not allowed.

• Advertising is considered drawing attention to a server, product, or event for your benefit. If you ask people to enter your DMs for an incentive such as nitro, we will assume you are advertising something. A link is not required for this to occur, and this is punishable whether in DMs or done verbally in the server.

Rule #3 Malicious Links and Files:

• Posting links or files with the potential to steal accounts or information, including surveys, is forbidden.

• Attempts to bypass the automod filter for links are prohibited.

Rule #4 Channel-Specific Topics:

• Discussions must align with the designated channel's topic.

• Consult channel topics/pins for specific guidelines.

Rule #5 Maintaining a Peaceful Environment:

• Avoid toxicity, discrimination, hate trains, or controversial discussions.

• Spoilers, disruptive behavior, and arguments on serious topics belong in DMs, not in the server.

Rule #6 Anti-Spam Measures:

• Multiple forms of spam, including senseless text, chaining, and excessive reactions, are prohibited.

• Loud warnings for media with high audio are mandatory.

Rule #7 Content Appropriateness:

• All content must be suitable for a family-friendly environment.

• Prohibited content includes NSFW, explicit material, substance abuse, and disturbing or grave nature content.

Rule #8 No Begging for Rewards:

• Constantly begging for nitro, roles, or items is not allowed.

Rule #9 Fair Use of Alts:

• Malicious use of alternate accounts, especially for unfair advantages or punishment evasion, is prohibited.

Rule #10 Music Voice Channel Guidelines:

• Play only songs in music voice channels; normal videos are not allowed.

• Songs with excessive swearing or offensive language as their primary purpose are prohibited.

Rule #11 No Impersonation:

• Impersonating individuals within the server using profile pictures or names is strictly prohibited.

• Impersonation, even if the individual is not in the server, can lead to punishment if users are misled.

Rule #12 Disruptive Display Names:

• Display names or nicknames must not be disruptive.

• Zalgo characters must be reasonably sized; excessive use is not allowed.

• Names must have a minimum of 2 characters and avoid excessive duplication.

• Changing names after punishment may lead to further action.

Rule #13 Respecting Privacy:

• Do not ask for or distribute personal information without consent.

• Personal information includes private codes or information not meant for sharing.

Rule #14 Spoiler Misuse:

• Spoilers should not be used to disguise swearing or inappropriate content.

• Misusing spoilers around sensitive words may result in a ban.

Rule #15 Respectful Behavior in VCs:

• No annoying behavior in VCs, such as mic spamming, loud noises, or extended AFK periods.

Rule #16 No Minimodding:

• Users should refrain from acting as moderators by declaring rule violations and punishments. Issues should be reported to active staff.

Rule #17 Non-Interference in Moderation:

• Avoid interfering with moderators' duties, including trolling, fake evidence submission, or misuse/exploitation of server bots.

• Misleading users with answers to serious questions, disruptive chat behavior, or non-cooperation with staff may lead to punishment.

• Arguing with staff members during moderation should be addressed through private communication with higher-ranked staff.

These rules collectively safeguard the integrity, inclusivity, and positive experience of Sad Sorrows. Users are encouraged to abide by these guidelines to foster a welcoming community for all.
